Carlow v Ireland 15's
Monday 20th January 2014
Venue: IT Carlow
Result: Carlow 1 Ireland 3
Carlow played against a very strong Irish Under 15's International side on Monday night in the tremendous surroundings of Carlow IT. In front of a very big crowd of around 1000 supporters, Carlow and Ireland went at it from the 1st minute with both sides creating early chances. Ireland took the lead with a speculative shot which nestled in the top corner. They soon increased their lead with a neat bit of play in midfield and punished the Carlow defence who were caught napping. Carlow continued to play great soccer and with Danny Doyle working hard up front ably supported by Adam Feeney who was having a stormer down the right wing, the Irish defence had to be at their best to deny Carlow space up front. Half time came with Ireland leading by 2-0.
The 2nd half started much the same way as the 1st with both sides creating chances. Carlow's substitute goalkeeper Alan Maher Broderick pulled of a great save before Brian Malone tested the Irish keeper. Ireland increased their lead with a long range effort of the inside of the post giving the goalkeeper no chance. Carlow's Brian Coady then split the Irish defence with a great run but tamely shot at the keeper, but this was only a taste of the Carlow's teams resilience where first Brian Malone had a great chance but was unable to get the shot away, then the goal the crowd were craving came when Niall Harvey headed the ball into Brian Malone's and his shot could only be parried into Dylan Bradley’s path, who coolly finished into the side of the goal.
A great historic night for Carlow Juvenile Soccer. Thanks to everyone who turned up on a very cold night to support all the players who were very proud to represent Carlow and put on a great show for everyone.
